Brazilian Navy Partners Nigeria on Anti-piracy Training

To enhance the bilateral relationship between the Brazilian Navy and its Nigerian counterpart, as well as conduct anti-piracy training, a Brazilian Navy offshore Patrol Vessel “AMAZONS” P120 is scheduled to pay a Port call to Nigeria Tuesday.
The ship’s visit which would end on Friday, September 7 2012, is coming a week after a US Naval Ship, HSV 2 SWIFT had a one week joint training exercise with the Nigerian Navy.
According to the Command Information Officer of the Western Naval Command, Lieutenant Commander, Jerry Omodara, the ship will berth at the Apapa Port.
During the visit, he said the ship’s company will be involved in professional training programmes with the Nigerian Navy.
He said an anti-piracy training demonstration for selected Nigerian Navy personnel will take place onboard the visiting ship on Thursday, September 6, 2012.
He said the ship while transiting to Lagos from Cotonou, Benin Republic, would be joined by NNS “Nwamba” and SHALDAG boat of the Nigerian Navy, at the sea to conduct a joint maritime exercise today.
He added that the Commanding Officer of the Brazilian Ship would also be paying a courtesy call on the Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval, Rear Admiral Ameen Ikioda.
Other activities he said, includes the ceremonial marking of the Brazilian National Day on Thursday.
