The Lagos State Police Command Monday paraded three suspects, who allegedly kidnapped and subsequently murdered one Akinsanjo Akinlade at the Ikorodu area of the state.
When paraded before journalists at the command’s headquarters in Ikeja, the suspects; Ogbuesor Sadiq, Abdulwahab Mutairu and Adeinola Lanre, allegedly confessed to have committed the crime, giving graphic details of how they kidnapped the victim, beheaded and dumped his body in a bush in Ogijo, Ogun State.
The suspects, according to their confessions, had stormed the victim’s home at about 9pm, on August 31, 2012, while he was driving into his compound in the company of his wife.
The trio were said to have first ransacked the victim’s apartment, dispossessed them of jewelleries, laptop and other valuables before abducting the victim to an unknown destination.

THISDAY gathered that the suspects had made away with the victim in his Nissan Pathfinder Jeep with plate number KRD 480 AE before calling his wife to demand for a ransom of N200, 000.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ngozi Braide, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said the kidnappers stopped communicating with the victim’s wife when she demanded that they allow her speak to her husband.
She said: “The case was reported at the Ipakodo Police Division from where it was transferred to the State Intelligence Bureau for discreet investigation, during which one of the suspects, Sadiq Ogbusor, was arrested in Auchi, Edo State.”
“The suspect led operatives to the hideout of the other gang members who then showed the detectives the exact point where they killed the victim and the corpse was found in its decomposing state.
“The suspects also confessed to have kidnapped one Sekiru Yusu of Iboshe Titun area of Ikorodu. They also confessed to have attempted to kidnap one Adeniyi Adesoye of Owode area of Ikoroudu.”
One of the suspects, Mutaru confessed to have given members of his gang information concerning the late businessman.
He said: “My job in the gang was to scout for victims, monitor their movements and give feedback to the gang and I did same in Akinlade’s case. I monitored him thrice and discovered he was always coming in at a particular time and informed the gang. We later stormed his house, took him to the bush where we called his wife to pay us a ransom of N200, 000.
“We killed him because he tried to raise the alarm. As we all sat in the bush, we heard footsteps of passers-by and he tried to raise an alarm.
“I held his mouth to prevent him from shouting but he kept struggling and it was then Sadiq used a machete to cut his neck until he became still. We left him there and ran.”
THISDAY gathered that the gang was traced three weeks later through the call log of the conversation they had with the deceased’s wife. Braide said the suspects would be charged for robbery, kidnap and murder.
