Police Exhume Girl, 13, over Mysterious Death’s Claim

The corpse of a 13-year-old pupil of Oluyori Comprehensive College, Isanlu in Kogi State, was Thursday exhumed by the police who also arrested her guardian over the alleged mysterious circumstance of the pupil’s death on October 5, 2012.
There had been allegations of the gruesome murder of the girl, who was purportedly deposited into a medium freezer after she was strangled to death. Trouble, however, started when her remains were buried without the parents or the guardian reporting her mysterious death to the police.
The Kogi State Police Commissioner,
Alhaji Mohammed Musa Katsina, who acted on a tip off, however ordered
the arrest of her guardian while the corpse has been taken for a
thorough autopsy to ascertain the actual cause of death.
Detectives led by the Deputy
Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Zannah Mohammed, visited the sleepy
Isanlu community in Yagba West Local Government Area of the state with
pathologists from the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) when the already
decompsing body was unearthed for autopsy. There were hopes that the
autopsy would reveal if the girl actually jumped inside the freezer and
got frozen to death.
But the guardian, Mrs. Deborah
Motunrayo Jaiyeoba, a sanitary inspector at the local government
claimed that she left the girl who was her niece at home on that
fateful day before leaving for a marriage ceremony.
She also claimed to have thought that
the late secondary school girl had only gone out to play when she
returned and did not see her: “I was thirsty and raced to the deep
freezer to get a sachet of water when I discovered that yetunde was
stone dead and I immediately raised an alarm,” she claimed.
