Police Arrest Mushin Jungle Justice Culprits in Lagos

Police Arrest Mushin Jungle Justice Culprits in Lagos

To discourage jungle justice, The Lagos State Police Command, yesterday arrested some persons believed to be behind the death of four persons in the Mushin area of the state.

Police sources said the State Police Command upon getting the information ordered a comprehensive investigation into the matter, while ordering for the arrest of the culprits behind the death of the deceased persons.

He said, “We are yet to recover from the death of the four persons that were killed in Rivers State by an angry mob and here it is happening in Lagos.

“With the arrests of the culprits, the command is trying to send a signal that jungle justice is not allowed in the state. The law must be allowed to run its due course.”

While the nation is still writhing in the death of the four students of the University of Port Harcourt (UniPort) who were murdered a month today, four other persons were on Saturday burnt to death at the Mushin Area of Lagos State.

According to reports, the yet-to-be identified persons were said to be part of a dare-devil armed robbery group that had constantly terrorised the residents of the area.

THISDAY gathered that the deceased persons were butchered and then burnt to death by the vigilante unit of the Oodua Peoples’ Congress (OPC), after allegedly intercepting them in an armed robbery operation.

Some residents of the area however claimed the suspects met their waterloo in the hands of an angry mob who were tired of being victimised by the gang’s daily operations.

Eyewitness report said the gang members numbering about 10 including some females had stormed Vono Street in Mushin and were carrying out their raid of terror when the vigilante also stormed the place.

A gun duel was said to have occurred and four of the suspects were gunned down while the remaining six fled to safety. The vigilante group were said to have quickly burnt the four persons that were mowed down by their bullets.

Confirming the incident, Lagos State Public Relations Officer, DSP Ngozi Braide, said the arrest would serve as a deterrent to other people who might want to take the laws into their hands.
