The Lagos State Police Command has arrested the alleged mastermind who wired the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the FESTAC Town area of the state which killed the Chairman of the Miracle Sand Dredgers Association, FESTAC Town, Lagos, Mr. Oladele Pius and injured a police inspector simply identified as Sani.

Pandemonium had erupted at the FESTAC bridge linking the area to Amuwo-Odofin Local Government on Monday when the IED which was buried where the sand dredgers work, went off.

THISDAY gathered that the suspect who was identified as Williams, was a member of staff of the deceased, thereby confirming Tuesday's claim by the relatives of the deceased that his death was planned and not a random accident as claimed by the police.

Relatives and friends of the deceased had earlier alleged that the explosion was not accidental but deliberate; claiming that the deceased had escaped several assassination attempts in recent past.

They had equally berated the police for playing down incident and for describing the explosion as an accident caused by electrical faults.

Police sources who spoke on condition of anonymity said Williams was arrested when he came to retrieve the wires used to connect the explosive and upon preliminary interrogation confessed that he worked in tandem with about nine other collaborators.

However, as at press time, THISDAY gathered that interrogation was still ongoing to delve into the motive behind the heinous act.

However, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Ngozi Braide said she was not aware that anybody had been arrested in connection with Monday explosion and as such won't be able to confirm the report.
