Exclusive: Police Arrest Three Armed Robbery Suspects, Recover Ammunition

Police operatives attached to the Sabo, Bariga and Oworonshoki Division of the Lagos State Police Command has arrested three armed robbery suspects in different areas of the state and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition.

Confirming the arrests, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ngozi Braide, said the cases are currently undergoing investigation at the State Criminal and Investigation Department (SCID), Panti and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja.


She said, "Operatives attached to Sabo Division at about 6pm yesterday arrested one Opeyemi Odusanya Ismaila for attempting to rob one Nwafor Vincent of his money. "Further search uncovered one locally made pistol with two live cartridges and one expended cartridge from the suspect. The case is under investigation at SARS Ikeja."

Also, the Anti-Robbery team attached to Bariga Division acting on information stormed  No.16 Oluwa Street, Bariga and arrested one Ahmed Mohammed.  One locally made double barrel pistol, two live cartridges, a pair of Army uniform; one matchet and one police baton were recovered from the suspects. Braide said  the two other members of the gang escaped, adding that efforts are on to arrest the fleeing suspects.

Also, the Rapid Response Squad team attached to Lagos State Command arrested one Yusuf Olalekan who robbed a truck driver along Oshodi Oworonshoki Express Road.

She said the suspect and his gang took to their heels on sighting the police patrol but were give a hot chase by the and was arrested.

Meanwhile, a Diesel tanker with Registration number SQ 601 AAA driven by one Uche  caught fire yesterday while discharging diesel at No.SC and 1 Leasing Drive Lekki Phase 1.

The fire was put out by the combined team of policemen and fire fighters and although no life was lost, the tanker driver was said to have sustained minor burns and was rushed to Hopewell Hospital in the area.

However, a  Skoda Saloon car with registration number CN 932 MUS and a Caddy Saloon car were burnt in the fire. Braide said the value of property destroyed is yet to be estimated, adding that  investigation into the incident is ongoing at Maroko Division.
