EXCLUSIVE: Bamigbetan: SSS on the Trail of Kidnappers

By Chiemelie Ezeobi

Following Monday's kidnap of the Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Chairman, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan, it was yesterday gathered that the State Security Service (SSS) is on the trail of the kidnappers. Sources with the SSS who did not want their names in print said the service is already at the trail of the kidnappers, adding that if all things work accordingly, the victim would be soon returned to the warm embrace of his family.

He said, "We are all careful not to release anything will jeopardise investigations at this point but just know that we are in their trail and would soon round them up. We are also working in conjunction with the police to unravel this case."

While accusing fingers have been pointed at the victim's political opponents and his driver who was in the car with him, the source said they would have all the answers once the suspects are in the net.

When contacted, the Deputy Public Relations Officer of the state Police Command, Mr. Damasus Ozoani, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said the command was investigations are ongoing.

He said, "All I can tell you is that investigations are in top gear and that we are on a fast track. We have made considerable progress as at now."

Contrary to claims that only the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) was deployed for the operation, Ozoani said all the relevant departments and sections are involved in investigation.

Also, in a telephone conversation, the Public Relations Officer of 81 Division, of the Nigerian Army, Colonel Kingsley Umoh, debunked claims that the service was part of the investigation.
