Security operatives in Edo State weekend began search for the kidnappers of Mrs. Victoria Ekhomu, wife of the private security expert and Chairman of Transworld Security, Dr. Ona Ekhomu, who was also shot by the gang. Initially, hours after the incident on Thursday, rumours had gone to town that it was the wife and children of the late Admiral Agustus Aikhomu that were kidnapped by the heavily armed bandits

But  the mix up was cleared when filing this  report even as it was yet unclear if the attack on the Ekhomu’s was targeted at them or   it was a random act of kidnapping  as  being  witnessed in the state in recent times.
The attack is however coming barely a month after renowned lawyer and activist, Mike Ozekhome, was kidnapped in the state and later released after some ransom was paid to the kidnappers.
The incident also came a day before the Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, signed into law the death sentence for kidnappers.
Ekhomu, who maintains a security weekly column with THISDAY,  was on Thursday shot and his wife, Victoria,  kidnapped while his driver was shot dead at Ekpoma, Edo State.
Sources said the Ekhomu’s were on their way to their hometown in Irua, near Ekpoma, when the kidnappers allegedly waylaid them and unleashed terror on the occupants of the vehicle.
Ekhomu was said to have been admitted at an undisclosed hospital where he is currently receiving treatment, the kidnappers had not  made any demand  for the ransom.
Efforts to contact the security expert or his office as at yesterday has   proved abortive as all his phone numbers were either switched off or were out of network coverage area. A security personnel who would not want to be mentioned said all hands were on deck to ensure the safe release of the victim.
