Let me scare you a bit – crude oil could soon be selling for $10 per barrel. It means as oil revenue dwindles, we would have to start sacking workers as salary arrears pile up. Projects would be abandoned with not enough money in the treasury to complete them. We would resort to heavy external borrowing to meet basic obligations. External reserves would go down so rapidly and intensely that importing basic provisions would become a problem. We might have to start queuing up to buy essential commodities (“essenco”). Meanwhile, the naira would hopelessly nosedive as forex scarcity hits the economy because of little inflow of petrodollars.

INFERNO: DSTV Staff Allegedly Assaults TVC Journalists in Lagos

So according to the new at 10 by Television Continental (TVC), two of its reporters were assaulted yesterday by members of staff of DSTV, Nigeria's top pay TV. According to reports, the reporter identified as Lara (can't  exactly remember the name) and her camera man Sunday Moses whom we fondly called Lanky in media circles were allegedly beaten up and their video camera worth thousands of naira were damaged by the crew.

The duo had gone to cover the fire incident that had razed down the super sports building which also housed the studio used for Tinsel and Jara, when they were assaulted. It would be recalled that the fire had gutted down the building located at Ojota despite the efforts of the fire service.

As of now, mum is the word on the legal action to be undertaken by the either the assaulted journalists or their media house. Anyway, seems like beating up journalists is now the order of the day. Am I scared or what?

DELE MOMODU: Now That Our President Can Sleep Well

Fellow Nigerians, please, permit me to reveal what had always been my secret fears about the Jonathan administration. For a government that assumed power with some measure of goodwill, one would have expected some lightning speed activities to compensate the few sympathetic members of the electorate who fell flat for the adroitly packaged scam called Fresh Air. But that has not been the case. Since attaining power, this government has only continued to waltz from one crisis to another. The pattern of governance has not changed from what it has always been since Nigerians had the misfortune of getting stuck with some of the most reckless politicians ever known to mankind in 1999.
