Plans by some suspected terrorists to move into Lagos was yesterday foiled , following the arrest of 20 of them along the Lagos/Ibadan expressway.

The suspects as gathered, were inside a trailer loaded with goods from the northern part of the country. But on reaching Berger, plain clothes security operatives later discovered to be personnel of the Department of State Services reportedly accosted the trailer. But eye witnesses said the driver refused to stop.

The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), today repatriated 57 out of the 100 illegal immigrants arrested during last Friday's raid of the Ijora-Badia area of Lagos State by the state Police Command and the state Task Force on Environment and Other Offences.

While the 57 aliens from the Republic of Niger were repatriated, 18 of the illegal immigrants from Mali who had fled their war-torn country, were transferred to the United Nations Refugee Commission to take action.

Although the raid was part of the stringent security measures put in place by the state command to checkmate the influx of suspected Boko Haram members into the state, 17 Northerners were mistakenly arrested and lumped as illegal immigrants.

Ganawuri district of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, again came under  attack by gunmen on Monday night leaving at least 28 persons dead and several others seriously injured.

Houses and churches in these villages of DaJak, Attakar, Zadien, Luka and Marid were not spared, as the attackers set them ablaze, leaving them in ruin and forcing the remnants of the communities to escape for refuge in neighbouring Kaduna State.

In the fury of the attack, a police corporal, simply identified as Jibril, serving with the state the command was shot dead by the assailants.

Kano Bomb Blast: 900 Corps Members Seek Re-deployment

About 900 National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) members out of the 2413 deployed to Kano State for their orientation have been re-deployed to other parts of the country.

The State Coordinator of the NYSC, Alhaji Bashir Yakasai said prior to last Monday's incident in Sabon Gari, very few corps members indicated interest to be re-deployed after the orientation phase of their service.

Following last week's raid on the building housing the suspected Boko Haram members at the Ijora-Badia area of Lagos by operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) and Operation Mesa (OP Mesa), the Nigerian Army Monday said investigations were ongoing.

This is just as the security agencies, including the police and the Lagos State Government, Monday transferred about 100 foreign suspects in their custody to the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Lagos for prosecution and possible deportation.

Speaking to THISDAY on the phone, the spokesperson, 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, Colonel Kingsley Umoh, said investigations were ongoing to round up the remaining suspects who are currently on the run.

Although he could not confirm the supposed terrorist cell in Lagos, Umoh said the security agencies involved were on top of the situation, adding that the suspects would have succeeded but for timely intervention and the raid last week.

About 12 out of 124 prison inmates that were set loose on the recent Ganye Prison attack in Adamawa State by gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram Islamic Sect has been recaptured by security forces.

This was confirmed  Monday by the Special Adviser (Media) to the Minister of Interior, Mr. George Udo when THISDAY enquired about government's response to the upsurge in Prison's attack and jail break across the country.

A raid carried out by security agents last Thursday on Ijora Badia, a Lagos neighbourhood, may have saved the nation’s commercial capital from possible multiple attacks by terrorists, THISDAY investigations revealed Sunday. The raid, carried out by both operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) and Operation Mesa (OP Mesa), a combined security outfit comprising the police and the 

armed forces, led to the arrest of some suspects.

New details obtained by THISDAY showed that contrary to the initial information from security agencies that only two suspected Boko Haram members were arrested during the raid, over 14 persons were nabbed and are currently in custody undergoing interrogation.

Kidnapped NTA Reporter Regains Freedom

Finally, Olubunmi Oke, a female journalist working with the 
Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Akure, has been released 
by her abductors. Oke reportedly was freed late on Saturday after her 
husband took the ransom money to the kidnappers.
Mrs. Oke , a nursing mother, was kidnapped on Thursday on her 
way back from work as she drove into her residence. Her baby and 
house help who were in the car with her were asked by the gunmen 
to disembark from the car before they drove away in her car to an 
unknown destination.
Oke’s car was later found in another part of Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The kidnappers initially demanded for N16 million, then reduced the ransom 
to N8 million and then N1 million.
