Tragedy struck yesterday at Iga Idugaran Street, Isale-Eko area of Lagos Island, when unknown gunmen shot and killed a white cap chief, the Onimole of Lagos, Chief Kayode Adeshina.

The 73-year-old chief was said to have been shot dead at about 3am in his palace at no 5, Onimole Palace, Iga Idugaran Street.

According to reports from his children and relatives who were with the deceased when the gunmen came calling, they could literally render no help as the gunmen took them by surprise.
Speaking to sympathisers and journalists, one of his children, Oyinlola Ikuforiji said the gunmen stormed the palace in the wee hours of the morning and made straight for the chief’s room where they found him sleeping.

According to her, they rudely woke up her father and even though he pleaded with them to spare his life, they shot him dead after demanding for money from him.

She said her father’s explanation that he had no money at home did not sit well with the gunmen as they shot him and left him in a pool of his blood.

It was gathered that after shooting him, the killers ransacked the entire palace in search of loot and made away with some valuables including the deceased’s phones, cloths and jewelries.

Although the deceased was rushed to a nearby hospital after the gunmen had left, he was already dead as confirmed by the hospital.

The deceased’s eldest daughter, Mrs. Mosaku Abiola confirmed the incident but could not say whether her father’s brutal death had to do with murder or robbery, adding that the police would unveil the reason from investigations.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Police Command, Ngozi Braide, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said investigations have commenced into the matter, even as she assured that the perpetrators of the act would soon be caught and brought to book.
