LASU Murder: Suspected Cultists Gun Down Another Student

...As Police begin screening of arrested suspects
By Chiemelie Ezeobi

Barely five days after  a 400-level Banking and Finance Student of Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, one Damilola Damoche, was gunned down by suspected cultists, another student simply identified as Kabiru, was weekend, shot dead by gunmen suspected to be members of the Buccaneers Confraternity.

This is just as THISDAY authoritatively gathered that the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) of the  state Police Command under the leadership of the Officer-in-Charge, SP Abba Kyari, has begun screening of the over 50 suspects arrested in connection with Damoche's murder.

According to reports, Kabiru who was allegedly a member of another Confraternity, the Eiye, was shot dead at his residence on Abeokuta Street by his assailants who opened fire on sighting him, hitting him on the head and stomach.

Meanwhile, barring any unforeseen circumstances, some of the suspects arrested in connection with Damoche's murder who are found innocent will be released after being screened by a crack team of investigators from SARS.

The arrest of the suspects  was reportedly made following a raid of some hotels located around Agboroko, along the Lagos/Badagry Expressway, by the Area E Police Command.

Police sources said the police were able to mop up all the suspects due to intelligence gathering. According to the source, the investigative team had recovered the late Damoche's phone which gave them a clue on the whereabouts of the suspects.

Confirming the ongoing screening process, the state Police Public Relations  Officer, DSP Ngozi Braide, said the screening was to weed out the culprits from the innocent, adding that justice would run its full course.

However, Braide said she was not aware of any reprisal attack carried out by any suspected Confraternity as being peddled round, adding that she would find out how true the story is.

She said,  "The screening is ongoing and from it we will know those who are culpable and the innocent will be let go. But those who are found guilty will be charged to court.

"For the claims of a purported reprisal attack carried out by another Confraternity, I would not be able to confirm that until I call the divisional police officer of that area."
