The Nigerian Navy (NN), has inaugurated the 2013 Command Appointment and Promotion Examination (CAPEX) board for 146 qualified senior officers of the rank of lieutenant commanders.

According to the board Chairman, Commodore Mufutau Adeoye, the CAPEX which would see the lieutenant commanders attain the rank of commanders, was often held to ascertain the needed quality of officers for deployment to hold positions of commands and units.

Adeoye who also doubles as the Chief Staff Officer (CSO) of the Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC), Apapa, under the leadership of the Flag Officer Commanding, Rear Admiral Azubuike Ajuonu, said the exam would end on May 10.

He said, "In the recent past, the NN has made tremendous effort to keep place with the concepts and requirements of modern warfare acquisitions of modern platforms with sophisticated weapon, machineries and equipment.

"These acquisitions have resulted in billets for both sea and shore appointments and these billets are expected to be filled by officers of proven professional and administrative competence who are expected to be promoted to higher ranks of commander and above."

He disclosed that the examination would be in four parts starting with the compulsory general paper and then the professional paper which is based on the candidates branch of specialisation.

Also, the candidates would sit for current affairs examination before  the oral interview which is the final part. Adeoye said the professional and oral takes 60 per cent passmark while the other examinations would be 50 percent.

He however warned the candidates that they each have a maximum of three attempts to pass the examination, adding that after three attempts, the candidate would be compulsorily retired on reaching the age of 45 years in the same rank of lieutenant commander.

He also stressed that the candidates should conduct themselves admirably during the examination as exam malpractice would not be condoned as it could result to withdrawal as well as disciplinary action.
