The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division Nigerian Army, Mag Gen Abel Obi Umahi has challenged officers and men of the Division to improve on their weapon handling and marksmanship in order to avoid wasting ammunition during operations.
The GOC who spoke to newsmen during the ongoing range classification exercise for officers and men of the division at the Ajilete-Owode in Ogun state reiterated that the exercise was significant considering the security challenges in the country at the moment.

Gen Umahi averred that it was a routine training exercise that was carried out on quarterly bases involving all the troops of the division.
He pointed out that the exercise was basically to improve the proficiency of troops so that any officers found to have performed below expectation will be identified as weak in weapon handling and in need of additional training for better performance.
In his words, “The purpose is to improve on our weapon handling and marksmanship principles so that in the real life situation, we would not fire to waste ammunition; it will be one man one shot,” Gen Umahi said.
He stated that for any officer that doesn’t do well during the exercise, will not be punished instead will be identified as someone requiring additional training.
The GOC explained that though there have been some security challenges within its area of responsibility threatening lives and property, without blowing our trumpet, “whatsoever task that is committed to us, we shall carry it out with zeal and commitment.”
“We are going to be professional, clinical in our approach to the security challenges that we have in these areas of our responsibility, he concluded.
All officers were tested on Fabrique Nationale (FN) rifle and Pietrol Beretta pistol. Defence correspondents also had a fair share of the exercise as they were also subjected to some shooting exercise.
