EXCLUSIVE: Navy Arrests 12 Suspects for Vandalism in Lagos

CHIEF OF NAVAL STAFF, VICE ADMIRAL DELE EZEOBA

No fewer than 12 persons including a female were yesterday arrested by personnel of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT, for allegedly vandalising power cables belonging to the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) in Apapa, Lagos.

The suspects, including a 21 year-old lady were arrested by naval operative along the Railway line at Leventis area of Apapa, during one of the regular raids to sanitise area. After the arrest, the personnel raided the area and recovered cutlasses, diggers, hammers and several wraps of substance suspected to be indian hemp.

Confirming the arrests, the Commander, NNS BEECROFT, Commodore Chris Ezekobe, said the raid of the criminal hideout was influenced by an official report from PHCN, Apapa.

Following the alleged sabotage by the suspects, Ezekobe said a team of naval personnel were placed on surveillance on the area, adding that already the entire area had been thrown into darkness for months because of the stolen cables.

He said, "Our men raided the area and a total of 12 persons suspected to have been involved in the vandalism of PHCN property were arrested.

"I am using this medium to warn those with criminal tendencies to stay away from the entire area because the command would no longer tolerate any act that would jeopardise the smooth operation of those working in the area."

The suspects have since been handed over to the Lagos State Special task force for further investigations.
