The I Mechanised Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Sokoto State, Monday said it had raided the hideout of some suspected Boko Haram terrorists at the Nakasari area of the Sokoto metropolis, leading to the arrest of one suspect, Mubarak (aka Dan-Hajiya).
The spokesman of the Brigade, Capt. Yahaya Musa, who made this known at a press briefing in Sokoto yesterday, disclosed that the operation was jointly conducted with the operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) on Sunday night.
He stated that the operation was in continuation of the series of raids being conducted by the security agencies to rid Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States of some of the fleeing insurgents from the volatile states of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe.
Musa disclosed that troops of the brigade had in the last few days intensified raids on the hideouts of the suspected Boko Haram insurgents in the Sokoto metropolis.
He revealed that security operatives made several arrests during the raid, adding that investigations were ongoing on the matter.
"I can authoritatively confirm to you that there were no deaths recorded either on the side of the insurgents or the military and SSS during the operation," Musa said.
Musa added that arms and ammunitions were recovered from the house of the suspect at the Nakasari area of Sokoto metropolis.
The items recovered included three AK 47 riffles, one riot gun, 153 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, explosives, three cartons of acid, knock-outs, chemicals and thermometers, among others.
He, therefore, appealed to the residents of the state to shun rumour mongering stressing the need for them to continue to give support and cooperation to the security agencies by providing useful information on the hideout of the insurgents.
