Two Students Feared Killed as UNIUYO is Shut down

The University of Uyo (UNIUYO) in Akwa Ibom State has been shut down indefinitely, following the death of two students during an encounter with the Police. checks revealed that the students had embarked on peaceful protest on the campus Wednesday, over the introduction of a new transport fare regime for the engineering and science students from the town campus to permanent site.

Following the killing of the two students, some buildings on the campus were as at 6.30 p.m. torched, including the offices of the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar. The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Comfort Ekpo, was said to have travelled to Abuja, on official engagement when the incident occurred.
Management staff were said to have escaped through various routes ostensibly to avoid been attacked by the protesting students.
