The death of 22-year old domestic help, Onyeka
Raphael, in a swimming pool at the Ogudu area of Lagos State has continued to
generate controversy prompting a more detailed investigation by the State
Police Command.
According to reports, Raphael, an indigene of
Umunede in Ika Local Government Area of Delta State, was found dead in the
bottom of the swimming pool at his employee’s residence at Babatunde Asimi
Street, Ogudu GRA.
Although cause of death was initially attributed to drowning,
his family however resurrected the matter and petitioned the police when they
discovered that his neck looked strangled suggesting that he was smothered
first before drowned.
According to a police source, the deceased was found
lying flat on the floor of the swimming pool with his stomach showing no sign
of protuberance, suggesting that he did not drown.
Calling on the police to conduct a thorough
investigation, the deceased’s family noted that it was odd that the dinner
Kingsley made for himself the night before was still on the kitchen table.
They added that his cap was even found near the
uneaten food and that the security man who was home at the time of the incident
claimed he did not see or hear anything.
The family disclosed that prior to Kingsley’s death,
he had fallen out with his boss, Tunde Williams, and would have resigned save
for the plea by his elder sister to stay put.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi
Braide, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said only an autopsy would determine
the cause of death.
She however promised the family members that a
thorough investigation would be conducted by detectives assigned to the case.
