Terrorism: Jonathan Calls for Global Cooperation

President Goodluck Jonathan has restated his call for greater global cooperation and coordination in the war against terrorism. Speaking at separate audiences with the new ambassadors of Israel, Russia, Greece and Algeria, who presented their letters of credence to him at the Presidential Villa Tuesday, President Jonathan said that Nigeria and other countries will benefit immensely from greater collaboration amongst their security agencies on efforts to combat domestic and international terrorism.

Contrary to widely publicised reports that President Goodluck Jonathan has advised the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, to relinquish his position Thursday, it has now emerged that the latter is still in charge of the ruling party.
This is as the party's Board of Trustee (BOT) meets Wednesday while the National Executive Council (NEC) parley on Thursday. Alhaji Bamanga Tukur told State House correspondents after more than an hour meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party with the president that he will not quit as speculated.

FG Pays N192.5bn Subsidy Claims to Marketers

As part of the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to ensure availability of petroleum products at subsidised prices, the Federal Ministry of Finance has stated that it had paid a total of N192, 502, 279, 966.50 as subsidy claims to marketers since the beginning of 2013.
The Special Adviser to the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Mr. Paul Nwabuikwu, said in a statement yesterday that of this figure, N135,696,269,214.05 was paid to the marketers in respect of verified arrears of 2011 and 2012 claims.

Sokoto State Governor, Aliyu Wamakko, Tuesday said he has been vindicated following the lifting of the suspension order slammed on him by the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) two weeks ago.
He also called on the national leadership of the party to see to the possibility of recalling his Rivers State colleague, Rotimi Amaechi, who was suspended last month.

Four days after some trigger-happy policemen shot and killed nine-year old Timilehin Ebun at the Mile 12 area of Lagos, the state Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko, Monday visited and commiserated with the bereaved parents of the deceased boy

Ebun was killed by a trigger-happy police sergeant, Alowonle Razaq last Thursday at Kosofe area of Lagos. Represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in-charge of 'operations', Mr. Tunde Sobulo, the CP paid a visit to the house of the bereaved family located at House No.9, Oyebola Street, Off Safuratu Benson, Oke-Oriya, Ikorodu.

EXCLUSIVE: Five Alleged Fake Naval Officers Arrested in Lagos

THE ARRESTED PERSONS
No fewer than five  fake naval officers were arrested at the weekend in Lagos for allegedly involved in crime. The five fake naval men were arrested from a church at No27 Marine Road Apapa.
The arrest bring's to about 59 fake naval officers that have so far been arrested since the recent clamp down on the activities of miscreants in the metropolis.

Parading the suspects, the Commander, NNS BEECROFT, Commodore Chris Ezekobe stated that the fake officers were recruited and trained at a secrete camp located within the premises of the Federal College of Fishery and Marine Technology, Victoria Island, Lagos.

EXCLUSIVE: Police Shoot Five Students as Protest Turns Bloody in Lagos

An otherwise peaceful protest staged by students of the Michael Otedola College Of Primary Education (MOCPED), Epe, along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, on Monday, turned bloody affair as policemen deployed to control the protest allegedly shot five students of the college.

Although names of the students allegedly shot could not be ascertained as at press time, it was however gathered that one of the students, said to be a 200-level Integrated Science student of the College, survived the attack and is currently receiving treatment at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi.

IG Task Force Re-Arrests Ex-NNPC Staff for Pipeline Vandalism


As part of the continuous measures to curb pipeline vandalism, the operatives of the Inspector General of Police Special Task Force on Anti-Pipeline Vandalism Unit, weekend, re-arrested a former member of  staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Majiyagbe Bashiru.

Bashiru who had been sentenced to five years imprisonment for pipeline vandalism, had finished his sentence few weeks ago only to be re-arrested in the act at Odi Ifediwo area of Ogun state, while vandalising an NNPC pipeline.

PDP Crises: President Asks Tukur, Other NWC Members to Resign

The crises in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came to a head Monday when the committee set up by President Goodluck Jonathan to resolve the spiralling crises in the party demanded the immediate resignation of the party's National Working Committee (NWC) members led by the party’s National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur. The decision was taken to “save the party from imminent collapse”.

The directive to Tukur and other NWC members to step down came on the heels of the decision to lift the suspension slammed on the Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko, by the PDP for insubordination.

South Pacific islanders, Tahiti scored a historic goal in their Confederations Cup debut, which ended in a heavy defeat by African champions, Nigeria. Tahiti's team of amateurs, ranked 138th in the world, pushed players forward throughout and were rewarded when Jonathan Tehau headed in from a corner. At that stage they were 3-0 down after an own goal from captain Nicolas Vallar and two efforts from Nmamdi Oduamadi.
