The family had also lost a daughter a few days later who died from shock after learning about what happened to her brothers and while the family were yet to comprehend the reason why fate should treat them that way, they never envisaged that the another misfortune will befall them soon again.

SIMON KOLAWOLE LIVE; Opposition and the Nigerian Project

Simon Kolawole Live!: Emailsimon.kolawole@thisdaylive.com
I’m a young, politically conscious Nigerian and, should I say, someone whose vote is up for grabs in 2015. First of all, I do not have any party affiliation. Out there, many Nigerians like me would love to vote based on conviction, not some party or ethnic allegiance or financial inducement. Globally, the people who determine outcomes of elections are not always the partisans. “Unattached voters” have a say. They usually vote judging by the issues at hand and their assessments of what the candidates are bringing to the table. In advanced countries, ruling parties are voted out from time to time. Politicians debate issues (not zoning) that impact on the lives of the ordinary people. In Nigeria, we are still far away from experiencing this glorious expression of liberal democratic culture.

Fuel Depots: Apapa’s Constant Nightmare

Uncontrolled increase in the number of fuel silos in Apapa could spell doom for residents, nobody is sure when the next explosion would rock their world, writes BENNETT OGHIFO
The multiple explosions at the fuel dump in Lagos, last week, mirror the explosions and the ricochet caused by detonated bombs at the Ikeja Cantonment on January 27, 2002.

Both blasts had similar effects, except that the exact number of deaths in last week’s explosions are still unknown. Like the Ikeja bomb blasts, glass windows of buildings in residential estates within the area were shattered and those farther from the site shook violently, causing families and workers to panic.

May D

By Joy Bewaji

The entertainment crowd aren’t always prepared to hear about a break-up. There’s the continuous bickering about the situation that allows it to grow into a grotesque creature in the minds of the fans because of the many sides and twists to such stories. The most unfortunate so far has been, of course, the Mohits crew. The fact that we may never get to enjoy that indescribable element that comes from a Donjazzy/Dbanj collabo ever again is just heart-breaking. Another split that is regretful is the Psquare/MayD split.

Chidinma
Her performance at the season three of Project Fame West Africa spotlighted the petit but mightily endowed songbird, Chidinma Ekile to music pundits across Africa. And her name has since resonated everywhere African contemporary music matters. Chidinma’s single, ‘Kedike’ earned her the Best West African Female Act award at the KORA Awards held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast last December. The wonder girl talks to LANRE ODUKOYA about the Kora award and her rise to fame
WINNING KORA…
It feels really great judging by the fact that it’s still very early in my career. This kind of achievement is actually overwhelming. I must confess, I never thought all this will come this soon. Suddenly, I started getting enquiries from other African countries about my works.

President Goodluck Jonathan visits Police College in Ikeja, Lagos
By Chiemelie Ezeobi
President Goodluck Jonathan, on Friday paid a surprise visit to the Police College in Ikeja, Lagos, in a move presidency sources say was meant to pre-empt the whitewash that usually precedes the visit of top government officials to agencies.
But the grim situation the president glimpsed through his visit is said to be causing unease for police chiefs who fear there may be some harsh consequences particularly given that they had been totally kept in the dark over the unscheduled visit.
