EXCLUSIVE: Eko Atlantic City Not Safe Without Proper Monitoring'

PROTOTYPE OF ATLANTIC CITY
Despite several assurances from the Lagos State Government about the Eko Atlantic City Project, a new district bordering Bar Beach which is being constructed on land reclaimed from the Atlantic, a hydrographer and consultant lecturer with University of Lagos, Dr.  Dupe Olayinka, weekend, raised fresh doubts as to its safety.

When completed, the project, which is billed to sprawl on nine million square metres of reclaimed land, according to the state Governor, Babatunde Fashola, would provide housing to over 250,000 residents as well as go a long way to curb the menace of erosion which is fast eating into the Lagos coastlines.

Dele Momodu
Fellow Nigerians, let’s begin to congratulate ourselves on the crisis currently rocking the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of Nigeria. It is the troublesome association that harbours the most unruly politicians on the surface of the earth but which prides itself as the largest political party in Africa without any empirical data or proof other than the fact that it is the party in Government in the most populous African country. The PDP is clearly an incredibly boastful party that has not been able to deliver on any of its many promises in the past 14 years despite the stupendous resources at its disposal which it has merely awarded to itself and its followers. The party never fails to praise itself like the lizard that falls from the top of an iroko tree and nods its head that “I have done well”. PDP says it has done Nigerians a huge favour and deserves to be in power for a further 50 years in the saddle. Who are we to argue in the company of the world’s biggest squander-maniacs?

Nigerian Ambassador to Cameroon, Ambassador Hadiza Mustapha
The recent fallout of the state of emergency declared by the federal government is the movement of about 1,500 refugees who  fled from Nigeria into the northern part of Cameroon. This figure is about half the figure being brandished by some media reports, which estimated that the number of refugees is over 3000.
Nigerian Ambassador to Cameroon, Ambassador Hadiza Mustapha, told newsmen in her office in Yaounde, that contrary to those media reports  the official estimate as ascertained by the United Nations Refugee Commission (UNRC) and the Cameroonian authorities was half of that.

Guest columnist:  Ikedi Ohakim
It is on record that since I left office, I have refused to join issues with anybody in spite of several falsehood peddled about me.  Honestly, I never wanted to react to issues raised by Mallam Nassir El-Rufai about me in his book, “The Accidental Public Servant”.  This was especially as I never took a second look at the book, on account of its poor print quality and a rather pedestrian title.

But inundated with a barrage of calls from both within and outside the country, I had to reluctantly but painstakingly go through the book.  Mark Twain may have had El-Rufai in mind when he wrote: “From the moment I picked up your book until the moment I put it down, I could not stop laughing.” That was the same frame of mind I found myself in after reading El-Rufai’s “The Accidental Public Servant”.
