SLUM TO SCHOOL 1000 VOICES CAMPAIGN!! THE FUTURE BEGINS HERE!


The Slum2school project, a volunteer based charitable organization driven by young social reformers to provide scholarship and psychosocial support for orphans and vulnerable children (OVC’s) in some of the major slums in Nigeria and across Africa,  has announced the launch of its annual fund raising campaign for 2013 tagged #1000 Voices.
The campaign is geared towards enrolling 1000 kids in 3 communities namely Makoko and Aiyetoru in Yaba Local Government and Emina community, a remote island in Epe.

On 27/7/2013 about 0200hrs, policemen attached to Area N’ Command Headquarters, Ijede responded to a distress call, trailed and arrested one Dayo Olarewaju ‘m’ of no fixed address and rescued one Bosede Adisa ‘f’ at Ewu-Elepe Town Ikorodu. The suspect with others at large allegedly  disposed Adisa Stephen ‘m’ of his Mitsubishi Montero Jeep with reg. No. AKD 457 AZ at gun point at Lucky Fibre Ikorodu and drove away with his wife Bosede Adisa ‘f’. The victim and the suspect are receiving medical attention at a hospital within Ijede while effort is on to arrest the fleeing members of the gang. The case is under investigation at State Criminal Investigation Department Yaba.



EXCLUSIVE: Fire Guts Shops in Ebute Meta



On 27/7/2013 about 0130hrs, fire gutted a shop at Herbert Macaulay Way by Market Street, Ebute-Metta. The fire was put out by neighbours, police team and fire service personnel mobilized to the scene. No life was lost. Cause of fire and value of property destroyed are yet to be ascertained. The incident is under investigation at Denton Division.

On 26/7/2013 about 1530hrs a Toyota Previa Space Bus with reg. No. AGL 422 AE driven by one Christopher Fapolunda ‘m’ of No.7, Obalenge Street, Ijegun Road, Ikotun, hit a yet to be identified male pedestrian along Ile-Iwe/Egbe Road, Ikotun. Victim was rushed to General Hospital Isolo where he later died. The corpse has been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy. The matter is under investigation at Ikotun Division.

On 26/7/2013 about 1735hrs policemen attached to Okokomaiko Division arrested one Basira ‘f’ other name and address yet unknown for allegedly abducting one Destiny ‘m’ 5years old, a pupil of Sulaful Nursery and Primary school, Okokomaiko. The case is under investigation at Okokomaiko Division.

Gov. Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, on Monday urged all security agencies in the state to work in harmony in securing the lives and property of people. Fashola said this while declaring open the stakeholders’ forum on Critical Infrastructures, organised by the Lagos State command of the Nigeria Security of Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The Governor, represented by the Senior Special Adviser on Security, Major.Babtunde Panox (Rtd)  said that irrespective of the law establishing each security agency, they all should synergise in securing the state.

On 26/7/2013 at about 3pm, policemen attached to Okokomaiko Division responded
to a distress call at Eddy Hotel situated along Akuberu Road Okokomaiko and
arrested one Ahmed Akeem ‘m’ of no fixed address with three locally made pistols
 and five cartridges. One Oja ‘m’, Sunny ‘m’ and other members of gang escaped
on sighting the police. Effort is on to track down the fleeing members of the gang.
The case is under investigation at State Criminal Investigation Department Yaba.


EXCLUSIVE: Police Arrest Fake Couple who Smuggle Nigerians to US

The Special Fraud Unit (SFU) of the Nigeria Police, Milverton, Ikoyi, has arrested a fake couple, Adejayan Adetokunbo and Funke Adebisi, who specialise in smuggling Nigeria abroad especially the United States of America.

The couple were arrested following a tip off by the Assistant Regional Security Officer, United States Consulate General, when they went to the embassy to collect their visas.

In a petition addressed to the Commissioner of Police, SFU, CP Tunde Ogunsakin, the consulate had alleged that the supposed couple had conspired and gone to the US Embassy for interview for Immigrant Visa to USA as a couple.

EXCLUSIVE: 42 Boko Haram suspects arrested in Lagos and Ogun

THE SUSPECTS WHO WERE PARADED TODAY
No fewer than 42 suspected members of Boko Haram have been arrested from various criminal hideouts in Lagos and Ogun States.  Some of the suspects were alleged to be among those responsible for the killing of soldiers and civilians in Maiduguri.

They were alleged to have migrated to from Borno to the south-western part of the country following the recent clamp down on their activities by the Nigerian Armed Forces.

FBI Arrests Breaks-150-man Syndicate who Pimp Children

The FBI arrested 150 people across the United States on charges of holding children against their will for prostitution, a three-day weekend sweep that officials on Monday called the largest-ever operation against child sex-trafficking.

The suspects, whom the FBI referred to as "pimps," were arrested in 76 U.S. cities and are expected to face state and federal charges related to sex crimes and human trafficking, FBI and U.S. Justice Department officials said at a news conference.

Police Foil Bank Robbery in Rivers, Seize 11 Guns

The police in Rivers State have confiscated 11 guns and other weapons after foiling an attempt to rob a bank. The seizure and the foiling of the bank robbery were announced in a statement Sunday in Abuja by the Deputy Force Public Relations Officer,  Mr. Frank Mba, a Chief  Superintendent of Police (CSP).
The statement said the seized guns included two General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) with 593 rounds of ammunition and eight AK47 rifles with 1,635 rounds of ammunition and 57 magazines.

Food Shortage Hits Calabar Prison

Nigeria Prisons 
The quantity of food served inmates at the Afokang Prison in Calabar South, is decreasing by the day as the number of prisoners continues to increase, the deputy controller of Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS) in charge of Prison Formation in Cross River State, Elder L. H. Onu,  has said.

He explained that whereas the quantity of food supplied to the prison has remained the same over the years, the number of inmates has not,  hence the decrease in the ration served and its effect on the prisoners too.
