Robbers Kill 39 Policemen in 154 Operations in Lagos

A total of 39 policemen were killed in Lagos State last year, while the police in turn recovered 16,034 ammunition, arrested 472 suspected armed robbers and killed about 146 in a gun duel during the numerous armed robbery operations that occurred in the state, a newly compiled data have revealed.
This is just as assaults, stealing, obtaining of money under false pretence, rape, murder, forgery, burglary and armed robbery topped the crime chart in the state last year with 1,200, 550, 1,161, 132, 111, 178, 200 and 154 figures respectively.

EXCLUSIVE: Hit and Run Driver Kill Gallant Soldier


A yet-to-be identified commercial bus driver yesterday knocked down and killed a soldier with the Nigerian Army in Lagos at the Anthony area of the state. The soldier who was on a rescue mission, was trying to apprehend a hoodlum who had earlier attacked and robbed a lone female.
Eyewitness account said the soldier had come upon the hoodlum and gave chase only to be knocked down by a speeding commercial bus. He was said to have died on the spot before medical attention could be given to him.
Confirming this, the Public Relations Officer, 81 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Omale Ochuagwuba, said a manhunt has begun for the errant bus driver who drove off despite knocking down a pedestrian. He said the deceased had rounded off his night duty and was heading for home when he met his death.
He however refused to disclose the identity of the deceased, adding that the family was yet to be notified of his death.


LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOSS PRESENTS SECURITY VAN TO NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH


In a bid to strengthen the security of lives and property,to compliment the efforts of the police and other security agencies in Amuwo Odofin LGA, the Executive Chairman, Comrade Ayodele Adewale presented a Toyota Hilux Security Van that was donated by the Lagos State Government to the Local Government Area's branch of Lagos State Neighborhood Watch.

BREAKING NEWS: Jonathan Replaces Sacked Ministers



Hours after sacking four ministers, President Goodluck Jonathan through the Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, has replaced them although temporarily by serving ministers.

For the Ministry of Aviation, Stella Oduah, was replaced by Minister of State for Trade and Investments, Mr Samuel Ortom, while Godsday Orubebe, Minister of Niger Delta Affair was replaced by Mr Darius Isiaku.

Also, Caleb Olubolade, Minister of Police Affairs was replaced by The Minister of State for the FCT, Olajumoke Akinjide.

Army Redeploys 107 Senior Officers, Six New GOCs

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen Kenneth Minimah in his first major decisions since assumption of office,  has approved the redeployment, postings and appointment of more than 107 senior officers most of whom were recently promoted to fill the vacuum created by the retired officers in the service.

Court Orders IG, Police Corporal to pay N10m for Raping Two-year-old


A Nasarawa State High Court ordered the Inspector General of Police Mohammed Abubakar and Mr. Anthony Onoja, a police corporal and convicted rapist, to pay a two-year-old rape victim Chinwendu Obi Onwudiwe, the sum of N10 million for exemplary damages.
