SHOCKER: EFCC ARRESTS PROF CHARLES SOLUDO


Former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Prof Charles Soludo, was Thursday arrested  by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC).

He was picked up from his Abuja residence, a source in EFCC confirmed to Vanguard.
Vanguard gathered that Soludo’s arrest was in connection with the controversial contract he awarded for the printing of polymer currency notes to an Australian firm while he was governor of the CBN between 2006 and 2008.
It was not clear as at the time of filing this report if the operatives would release the former Anambra State Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate.

CYNTHIA OSOKOGU: FG Restricts Sale of Daterape Drugs

Smarting  from  the harrowing effect of the date-rape drug otherwise called Rohypnol which was used to rape and rob late Cynthia Osokogu  last year July 22,the Federal Government yesterday ‘limited and restricted’ the distribution of the drug.
The measure is to ensure that the access to the drug is controlled and can be monitored. Cynthia  was murdered by a Facebook friend and his accomplices in Lagos, after she was drugged with Rohypnol.

EFCC Vs Sylva: Playing Games with Justice

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) claims it has confiscated choice properties belonging to the former Governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva who is standing trial for alleged misappropriation of state funds during his tenure, Tobi Soniyi Ex-ray the issues.
When the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission issued a statement claiming that it has taken possession of 48 properties belonging to the former Bayelsa State Governor, Timipre Sylva, there were outbursts of emotion.  From those on the streets to the bed chambers of the aristocrats, emotions ran high. Could the ex-governor have stolen so much to buy 48 houses within four years?

Anambra Indigene Emerges Best in NECO, SSCE

Governor Peter Obi
The many investments of Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State in the education sector are yielding fruits as a citizen of the state, Miss Sandra Anazor, who went to school in the state came the overall best in  NECO and WASC examinations.
While receiving her at the Government House yesterday, Obi announced scholarship for her and promptly redeemed it by handing over a cheque of N2, 220,000 to her, covering the six years she will be in school, having secured admission to read Medicine at the University of Ibadan.

Suswam Denies Allegation of Frivolous Trips

Benue State Governor, Hon. Gabriel Suswan, has denied allegations of frivolous trips abroad levied against him by some stakeholders in the state. Suswam in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Cletus Akwaya, stated that the allegation was politically motivated and aimed at discrediting is government.
“We wish to state loud and clear that Suswam does not engage in frivolous travels abroad as being insinuated by the ACN under the guise concerned stakeholders,” he said. He stated further that the governor made only six official trips abroad last year.

Russia Asks FG to Release 15 Sailors

The Russian government Wednesday called for the immediate release of the 15 sailors arrested by the Nigerian Navy for allegedly smuggling arms into the country. Nigerian authorities intercepted a ship and arrested its Russian crew on October 23 last year after they found 14 AK-47 riffles guns and 8,500 rounds of ammunition on board.

Early last week, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs Ibukun Odusote, announced that the federal government plans to spend between N40 billion and N60 billion to procure 10 million telephone handsets from China and United States for free distribution to rural farmers nationwide. This is part of the e-wallet project. According to Odusote, the funds for the procurement of the 10 million telephone handsets were already available.

The absence of a certified cure for HIV/AIDS has continued to give rise to many claims and counter claims by those who purport to have found a therapy that will heal those with the disease.
On Tuesday, it was the turn of Prof. Isaiah Ibeh, the Dean of School of Basic Medical Sciences of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Benin-City, who claimed to have found a cure for the dreaded disease.

Jonathan to Monitor Police Conduct

The Nigeria Police will as from now come under the close supervision of President Goodluck Jonathan in order ensure strict monitoring and compliance of the set rules of conduct guiding the institution in the discharge of their duties.
President Jonathan stated this Thursday in Abuja at the launch of the Code of Conduct and Professional Standards for Officers and Men of the Nigeria Police Force.
Represented by Vice President Arc Mohammed Namadi Sambo, the president said “I expect a quarterly assessment of compliance to be at my desk to enable me monitor overall improvement or otherwise.”

Plateau Women Protest Unjust Arrest of Youths by STF

Women in Du village of Jos South LGA of Plateau State, on 
Thursday came out in their hundreds to protest the unjust 
arrest of their youths by the Special Task Force (STF) in the 
state.
The women, who all wore black attire, stormed the major 
streets of Jos protesting and calling on the security personal 
to release their youths, who were arrested by men of the 
force over alleged possession of illegal arms.
On Wednesday the STF had paraded about, nine suspects 
from the village, who were allegedly arrested with arms after 
the village was raided by assailants.

Police Detonate 68 Bombs in Kano

Kano State Police Commissioner Ibrahim Idris
Kano State police command has disclosed that going by 
major crime statistics, a total of 1580 criminal cases and 2097 
traffic cases were recorded within the last year.
The state police command also said that 68 improvised 
Explosive Device (IEDs) detonated by the command’s anti 
bomb disposal unit in the last one year.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo has requested the federal government to wade into the stalling of the Aba Power project in order to fast track its completion and ensure that the people of the South-East benefit there from.
President of the association, Prof. Anya O Anya, who led members of the group to meet with President Goodluck Jonathan Thursday told State House correspondents at the close of their discussion that the thrust of their meeting with the president was the Aba power project and other developmental matters.
These include roads construction and rehabilitation and upgrading of railway networks linking the south with the northern part of the country.
