AFCON: Cash, National Honours, Await Eagles at Reception in Abuja

Members of the all-conquering Super Eagles who Sunday night ended
Nigeria’s 19 years wait for another African Cup of Nations trophy in
South Africa are to be hosted by President Goodluck Jonathan Tuesday
night in Abuja where they are to be presented with several
mouth-watering packages for winning the 29th edition of the continental
football fiesta.
Sources close to the Presidency disclosed to THISDAY Monday night that
Super Eagles players and coaches are to be presented with national
honours ranging from MON to OON in addition to been offered cash and
land in choice parts of the Federal Capital city, Abuja.
Finance Minister Pledge FG's Commitment in Curbing Crude Oil Theft

The Coordinating Minster of Finance and Economy, Mrs. Ngozi OKonjo-Iweala, has reiterated the commitment of the Federal Government to fight against crude oil theft and other illegalities on the nation's waterways. The minister made this disclosure yesterday at the commissioning of the five newly acquired boats by the Nigerian Navy (NN) at the Western Naval Command (WNC), Apapa, Lagos.
The commissioning of the boats came seven months after President Goodluck Jonathan commissioned the first locally built warship, Nigerian Naval Ship (NNS) Andoni and a year after the First Lady, Patience Jonathan commissioned the nation's flag ship, NNS Thunder F90.

Exclusive: Police Arrest Three Armed Robbery Suspects, Recover Ammunition

Police operatives attached to the Sabo, Bariga and Oworonshoki Division of the Lagos State Police Command has arrested three armed robbery suspects in different areas of the state and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition.
Confirming the arrests, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ngozi Braide, said the cases are currently undergoing investigation at the State Criminal and Investigation Department (SCID), Panti and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja.
Jonathan Hails Pope’s Courage

President Goodluck Jonathan has applauded the exemplary wisdom and courage shown Monday by Pope Benedict XVI in his decision to voluntarily relinquish the Papacy because of his advanced age and growing inability to keep up with the physical and mental demands of the Office.
A statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati, said: “On behalf of himself, the Federal Government and people of Nigeria, President Jonathan wishes the Pope a very peaceful and restful retirement at the end of this month.”
According to President Jonathan he is confident “that even in retirement, Pope Benedict XVI will continue to contribute to the spiritual well-being of the world in every possible way and that he will continue to offer prayers to God Almighty for global justice, equity, peace and progress.”
AFCON 2013 Fallout: Keshi Withdraws Resignation

Stephen Keshi has decided to stay on as Super Eagles coach after withdrawn his resignation letter. A statement from the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) media officer, Ademola Olajire and reportedly signed by Stephen Keshi reads thus: “My attention has been drawn to reports in the media that I have resigned my appointment as the Head Coach of Super Eagles of Nigeria.
“While I have had cause to express my displeasure over some issues that happened in the course of our participation in the AFCON 2013, which my team won by the grace of God, especially concerning my relationship with the Nigerian Football Federation, I have since had opportunity to discuss the various issues with all concerned. I am therefore pleased to say that I have reconsidered my position and have decided to continue with my job.
