The Speaker’s aide argues that his boss has been successful in his position.
Readers can please forgive the seemingly unconventional headline to this article. I got really excited going through the statistics of the mid-term score card House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under the leadership of Right Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal. That mid-term milestone was achieved on June 6, 2013. For a recap, the leadership of the House was elected on June 6, 2011 in an atmosphere that has served as a quick reminder of the goodness of team work and promotion of democratic tenets.

SEGUN ADENIYI: The Craze of Dubai Weddings

The Verdict By Olusegun Adeniyi. Email: olusegun.adeniyi@thisdaylive.com

While many of our idle rich people have for long stopped celebrating their birthdays in Nigeria, preferring to transport their friends and associates to some choice destinations abroad, the new craze in town is that the wedding ceremonies of their children and wards also no longer hold in our country: It is now a Dubai affair!

Ordinarily, wedding ceremonies are religious cum traditional affairs between two individuals and two families who would invite their relations and well wishers to share in the joy of the day. And it is usually held, in most cultures in our country, at the location where the parents of the bride reside or the community they hail from. But because of the corruption of our values and all that we once held dear, wedding ceremonies are now being exported to countries that have nothing to do with the family of either the bride or the groom.

Some yet-to-be identified custom officers stationed at the Ilase Custom Checkpoint, along Owode-Idiroko Road, yesterday morning shot a heavily pregnant female passenger, Alhaja Fausat Ayode, to death and absconded for fear of the irate mob.

I gathered that when the incident happened, pandemonium erupted in the area as the irate mob made to brutalise the custom officers but they fled back to their unit at Owode-Idiroko.

It was also gathered that when the officers who were deployed to the checkpoint from the Federal Operating Unit (FOU), Owode-Idiroko, absconded, the mob numbering over 300 went on rampage, destroyed and set the checkpoint on fire.
