Nfawa-Precious Offem reflects on subjective actives at one of the most popular leisure spots at the University of Lagos
A peaceful vantage of the massive, spectacular habitat that dominates and encircles the city of Lagos, over viewing perhaps, the longest bridge in Nigeria, is an achievable feat that the University of Lagos lagoon front affords. The waters claps gently against the stoppers, the atmosphere is one of cool breeze. People, young and old, students, members of the general public are patrons.

The Lagoon front of the University of Lagos is one of the major hallmarks of the institution. It is located North of the campus ,spanning across a considerable portion of the university and conspicuously observable from the famous third mainland bridge.
The Lagoon front is a typical utility feature of the campus, which is reserved to create a serene relaxation centre. The facilities  include sitting areas, linked walkways that allow for wheel chair, trees that provide shade from the scorching sun, beautifully designed landscape, green lawns, toilets, and swing amusement. All of these gives one a relaxed feeling when you need to be away from all the hustle and bustle of campus life or work in general.
The lagoon front has remained a key highlight of the University of Lagos and has attracted numerous people even from the outside public. It has been used over time as an events venue, assembly for various groups and individuals as well as a romantic rendez-vous for many young people especially students on campus. Also it could be used as a place of meditation and inspiration for both creative minds and studying scholars of the university.
Over the years, the lagoon front has worn improved appearances, enhancements befitting a ‘school of first choice and the nations pride’. In 2009/10, improvement works were done on the lagoon front to create more sitting spaces, good walk way network, toilets facility, clearing the water of dumps and litters, as well as a construction of concrete water stopper, helping to define boundary. Another intriguing aspect of the lagoon front is the ferry service that  allow those touring or relaxing to ‘see the world on waters’. This major transformation work is as a result of the joint effort of the university and other socially responsible organisations whose passion is to make excellence a tradition in both academic and environmental endeavours.
The University of Lagos, established in 1962 recently celebrated its Golden Jubilee Anniversary, and has decided to give the Lagoon front yet, a further face lift. The management of the university has thus embarked on a project that will add a water fountain, a small office building and the University of Lagos Mast to the lagoon view paradise. This additional features are a part of the ongoing works on the Lagoon front as evidenced by the presence and activities of contractors on the facility.
  The new face of the University of Lagos lagoon front will definitely add  to the illustrious prestige of the great university. It will add yet more to her glory.
This project is one of the numerous infrastructural advancements happening in the University of Lagos. A tour of the lagoon front will unquestionably instil a longing for savouring the beauty of nature in the beholding of a vast body of water in the right place, from the right perspective.
