I GO DIE LOSING THE ACE

Humorist, Francis Agoda a.k.a. I Go Die raced to fame a couple of years back by reeling out jokes mostly about sex, romance and prostitution at a time the industry was literally in drought of that manner of humour, I Go Die’s entry was more than a saving grace. He became one of the most sought after comedian for comedy shows and he had delivered impressively in seasons gone by. However, it’s in doubt today that the same man whose only physique evoked crazy laughter before he took the mic, is in lethal gasping for exhale of quality jokes.
A couple of months back when he was billed to perform at the Legend Stout end of month gig at The Nite Shift Coliseum, he had shown that some nearly inept handling of the show when it was his turn to perform. All the jokes were not only mushroom, over-told but also lacked all the comic stimuli to provoke laughter.
To say he’d made quite some fortune is not in contention, but his proficiency seems to be out of his reach at the moment. He was also at the just concluded Rhythm Unplugged where he repeated the same old uninteresting jokes where rising acts like Funny Bone, Akpororo and a few other upcoming humorists took the shine. Without sounding injurious to the Warri comedy rave, it’s too early to start thinking he’s a veteran already, taking cue from the grandmaster, Ali Baba, Bovi the mathematical comedian and the overly spontaneous act like Julius Agwu will reinvent him. I Go Die must also discern more comedy tricks beyond the monotony of vulgar talks; it was and probably still is the reason he hardly ever gets corporate contracts. Hindsight should tell him to start studying current affairs world over lest he drives self to early extinction.
