A 22-year-old man, Ibrahim Lawal, and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Saleh Kura, have been arrested in connection with the killing of two lawmakers of the Kano State House of Assembly, Hon. Abba Garko and Hon. Danlami Isa Kademi.
The Commissioner, Kano State Police Command, Ibrahim Idris, said Kura and Lawal were arrested based on information.
Idris said: “We are all aware that last year we recorded cases of assassination in the town, including the killing of two members of the state House of Assembly.
“Since then, we spread our dragnet to trace and arrest the culprits.
“The command, based on information, arrested one Ibrahim Lawal, aged 22 years, of Layin Yarbawa Unguwa Uku quarters in connection with the killing of late Honourable Danladi Isa Kademi, which he confessed during interrogation that he physically participated in the attack and shot the late honourable member.”
Idris said the two suspects have no links with dreaded sect, Boko Haram.
He said Lawal, who joined the gang of hired killers in January 2012, named one Abdullahi (alais Mabo) of Filin Kashew, Ugwar Ukwu as the gang leader.
He said Abdullai and five others who allegedly took part in the killings were now at large.
Idris disclosed that the suspect confessed that they were sponsored by one Alhaji Saleh.
They were promised N100,000, but were given N30,000.
However, nothing incriminating was found in the house of the alleged sponsor when searched.
Saleh, 54, equally denied knowing any of the suspects or having anything to do with the killings.
