Pandemonium erupted in Ago-Oba area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Sunday night, when some unidentified persons allegedly gained access into the one-room apartment of Mrs. Amoke Musuru, where she was allegedly murdered alongside her two-year-old grandson, Baliqs. It was also gathered that the woman and her grandson were fast asleep when the suspects smashed the head of the duo with iron rod, which led to their death.
Meanwhile, sons of the late grandma, Saburi Moshood and Hakeeb Moshood,
while speaking with journalists yesterday, expressed shock over the
development.
The children, who reside in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, said they
were not aware that such calamity awaited them, recalling that their
coming home (Abeokuta) was to make arrangement to come and exhume the
corpse of their paternal grandma for re-burial.
Moshood added that in view of the fact that, the on-going road project
has affected frontage of the family house where the grandma was buried
He, however, explained that coincidentally, their mother was killed
overnight on their arrival to the family house, to exhume their
grandmother corpse for re-burial.
According to him, we arrived the family home, without any fore
knowledge of the killing, but we started suspecting something went wrong
the way residents were greeting us.
“We went straight to our mother’s room, and sadly we found her lifeless
body and of the grandchild on the floor. The police came, discovered
the iron rod used to kill them, took it away as exhibit, and also took
away corpses, which were later released for us for burial, and we have
since buried them,” he said.
He, however, posited that those behind the killings have been handed
over to God for judgment, stressing the incident was a clear case of
some people not wanting them at the family house any longer.
He added: “What else are we coming to do here, our mother was killed
alongside with grandson, our paternal grandmother could not be re-buried
as we planned. There is no point in looking back after we leave.
When THISDAY visited the scene, blood stains of the deceased litter the
room, where Baliqs and his grandmother popularly called Iya Saubana,
were murdered by yet-to-be identified killers.
At the scene of the incident, the police took away the corpses for
autopsy, which were later handed over to the family for burial, while
those arrested and interrogated were later released.
