Police Arrest Fraudster for Impersonating IG's Brother

By  Chiemelie Ezeobi

The Lagos State Police Command yesterday said it has arrested one Sani Muhammed, for allegedly impersonating one of the siblings of the Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Abubakar.

In his confessional statement, the suspect said he had been engaging in the act since the current IG was promoted to his position by the President Goodluck Jonathan.

Confirming the arrest, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ngozi Braide said the police clamped down on the fraudster after he had extorted money from lots of unsuspecting Huasa traders at Mile 12 Market area of the state.

She said the traders willingly parted with the money on the premise that he would help them curry some favours from the IG.

She said, "Sani Muhammed was arrested by men of Ketu Police Division for impersonating the younger brother of the Inspector General of Police, IGNMD Abubakar and he had by this extorted money from several innocent citizens.

“He is from Kebbi State while the IG is from Zamfara State. So, there is no connection at all but because there are lots of Hausa people around Ketu-Mile 12, he normally tells people he could help them by talking to his brother on their behalf whereas he has no relationship with the IG.”

Ngozi said the suspect will be charged for impersonation and will be arraigned in court today.
