A construction worker with the China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC), Asha Balogun, Tuesday fell into the lagoon at Fadeyi Oloro Bridge, Isolo, Lagos and drowned before help could come.
The 27-year-old casual worker was part of the construction workers working on the expansion of Ikorodu Road and  was said to have slipped into the lagoon while taking his bath after closing for the day.

It was gathered that all rescue efforts proved abortive until his body was found afloat yesterday at the lagoon under Majidun Bridge, Ikorodu  Road and his remains  was taken in an ambulance to the general hospital for autopsy.

The Edo State indigene was said to have moved to Lagos in 2008 in search of greener pastures and lived with a relative until he fell to his death.

The deceased's colleague, Akeem Gbadamosi, said Balogun's family has been notified, adding that although the deceased had worked close to the lagoon the entire day, he only fell in after the day's job.

He said, "He had actually closed for the day’s work and wanted to take his bath. He left his phone and cloth at the bank of the river and moved inside a little to take some water before he slipped into the lagoon.

“We could not get divers on time to rescue him and by the time they came, they could not find him. He was a nice and hardworking guy and we will miss him."

Meanwhile, normal construction work to expand the road continued although it was yet to be ascertained whether the construction company CCECC would compensate the deceased's family.
