In the face of continuous
security challenges facing the nation, President Goodluck Jonathan, who
yesterday unveiled the 200 units of three-bedroom flats constructed for
officers and men of the police force in Lagos, said such welfare measure would
boost the commitment of the officers in securing the nation.
This is just as he said that Nigeria
was securing World Bank loan of $300 million (about N46 billion) for Mortgage
Bank to address the general housing challenge in the country.
The 200 unit of three-bedroom
flats which was named ‘Goodluck Jonathan Housing Estate’’ and located in Idimu,
Alimosho Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of the state is targeted at
catering to the housing needs of police officers at a subsidised rate.
To celebrate the auspicious
moment were the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Air Staff, Admiral Ola
Sa’ad Ibrahim and Air Vice Marshal Alex Badeh respectively and the Ministers of
Police Affairs and Trade and Investment, Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade and
Olusegun Aganga respectively.
Others were the Chairman,
Police Service Commission, Mike Okiro (IG Rtd) and the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan
Akiolu 1 as well as one of the Directors of the State Security Service, Ben
Achu-Olayi.
While stressing that there
was no slacking in security issues, he said seeing to the welfare, one of such
which is housing, of the officers would serve as a moral booster and in essence
drive the desired result as regards the officers living up to their
responsibilities.
