EXCLUSIVE: Customs Impounds Arms and Ammunition Concealed in Cargo

The   Nigeria Customs Services NCS,   Ports  and Terminals  Multi-Services Limited (PTML), Tin Can Island, Apapa, Lagos have impounded a container laden with  Black GMC Jeep  used to illegally smuggle into the country arms and ammunition.

The Customs Area Controller, PTML, Area Command, Comptroller Tajudeen Olanrewaju disclosed this today. According to the CAC, one suspect, an  agent to the importer has  been  arrested  in connection with the importation which he said contravenes the importation rules of the nation as arms and ammunition falls under absolute importation prohibition. He said the suspect  is currently being detained while investigations into the case is ongoing.

The arms recovered include, one Smiths and Wesson shot gun, one revolver pistol, one Bushnel sniper rifle model 710, 52 rounds of 38mm calibre ammunition, 48 rounds of 9mm calibre ammunition, 38 rounds of 9.0mm calibre ammunition and two empty magazines. The cargo, according to the CAC was  imported into the country from America.
