The Special Fraud Unit (SFU) is investigating a case of obtaining money by false pretences/forgery involving Barrister Vincent Ejikeme Ezenwajiaku a.k.a. Vincent Ezeh, a serving Commissioner for Special Duties in Anambra State Government.
A petition to the Commissioner of Police, Special Fraud Unit alleged that sometime between 1996 and 2002, the suspect being the Managing Director of BIO Plastic Ltd invited the Complainant to invest in his company as a Co-Director to enable him acquire 34% of the equity at the end of the investment.
The Complainant agreed and paid instalmentally the sum ofN10,582,540.00 (Ten Million, Five Hundred and Eighty Two Thousand, Five Hundred and Forty Naira). The Petitioner further stated that the suspect induced him to part with his hard earned money by writing several letters promising and indicating huge potentials of the company, expected turnover and profitability, but he later discovered that he had invested in a non-existent company as the company was not registered with Corporate Affairs Commission.
In the course of investigation, detectives from the Unit travelled to Anambra State with invitation letter which was duly served on the suspect. The suspect was expected to report to the office on 16thApril, 2013 but he failed to honour the Police invitation. Again on 4th August, 2013 detectives went to Awka with a Warrant of Arrest and he resisted arrest and maintained that he must see the Governor of the State or State Commissioner of Police. He was taken to State CID where he made cautionary statement and subsequentlyreleased on bail to one Engr. Obi Damian Okwudili who promised in writing to produce the suspect on 15th August, 2013 but all to no avail.
The suspect has deliberately refused to honour Police invitation as well as resisting arrest. The surety has been arrested and will soon be charged to court for offence of surety to show cause.
