EXCLUSIVE: African Security Summit to Tackle Terrorism, Insecurity


To tackle the increasing spate of terrorism in the continent, the joint African Security Summit has reiterated  its commitment to ensuring that such is stamped out through intensive partnership by African nations.  The President of Security Watch Africa (SWA), Mr. Patrick Agbambu, made this disclosure in Lagos, on the forthcoming SWA awards billed to hold in South Africa.


Organised by SWA in partnership with the University of South Africa (UNISA), the summit intends to bring together top African leaders in government and security practitioners to discuss security challenges facing the continent.

Tagged, “International Terrorism and Human Trafficking: Its Effects on Africa’s Development,” the summit would kick off on Wednesday, November 6 to Friday, November 7, 2013 at Indaba Hotel, Conference Centre & Spa, Johannesburg, South Africa.

Agbambu said confirmed speakers at the two-day lecture series include both the National Security Advisors to Republic of Ghana and Nigeria, Brigadier General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah and Col. Sambo Dasuki, respectively.

Others are, Prof. Johan Burger of Department of Police Practice, UNISA; Dr. Marcel van der Watt, also of the department of Criminology & Security Science at the UNISA and Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State, among others.

Also, as part of the event, he said an award night to celebrate security excellence would hold on Friday, with the  recipients as President Paul Kagame of Republic of Rwanda; Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Mr. Dikko Abdullahi and Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Manko, amongst others.
