EXCLUSIVE: CHOLERA HITS LAGOS, Kills 12 in 2Weeks

No fewer than 12 persons have allegedly died and several others hospitalised in different parts of Lagos State following an outbreak of the dreadful Cholera disease. Among the deceased was one Sunday Emeka, a generator repairer at Sijuade Street, Ago, who passed on at about 2am on Sunday in one of the hospitals in the area after continuous stooling and vomiting.

A check at hospitals at Isolo Local Government  and its environs revealed that the scourge started about a week ago but was not given much attention until people started dying.
Hospitals visited at Okota, Bucknor, Jakande Estate, Oke-Afa Canal, Ejigbo, Ikotun, within the last three days witnessed patients who were on admission suffering from the scourge.
Although the state Commissioner for Health, Jide Idris, admitted that they have recorded cases, he said it would be incorrect to call it an outbreak, adding that they are on top of the situation.

He said, "That 12 people have died is totally incorrect. I am only aware of one case. Compared to other parts of the country, it is not proper to call what is happening in Lagos an outbreak.
"We have sent our officials to the various local governments where it has been reported and the victims are being adequately treated. The public should maintain good personal hygiene and ensure that their food and water are properly preserved."
