A yet-to-be identified commercial bus
driver yesterday knocked down and killed a soldier with the Nigerian Army in
Lagos at the Anthony area of the state. The soldier who was on a rescue
mission, was trying to apprehend a hoodlum who had earlier attacked and robbed
a lone female.
Eyewitness account said the soldier had
come upon the hoodlum and gave chase only to be knocked down by a speeding
commercial bus. He was said to have died on the spot before medical attention
could be given to him.
Confirming this, the Public Relations
Officer, 81 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Omale Ochuagwuba, said a manhunt has
begun for the errant bus driver who drove off despite knocking down a
pedestrian. He said the deceased had rounded off his night duty and was heading
for home when he met his death.
He however refused to disclose the identity
of the deceased, adding that the family was yet to be notified of his death.
