Police Arrest Fake Doctor, 6 Others Arrested for ATM Robberies

Police operatives attached to the Lagos State Police Command yesterday arrested and paraded a fake medical doctor and six other persons for allegedly raiding several Automated Teller Machines (ATM) in Lagos.

The suspects who were identified as Tajudeen Dosumu (a doctor), Isaiah Willie, Jonathan Insirim, Tairu Kareem, Daniel Onuaha, Eyo Bassey alias General and Confidence Saviour, were arrested after raiding an ATM machine belonging to one of the old generation banks in the state.

The police also recovered assorted military and police rifles with loaded magazines including 16 various automatic rifles, four AK47 rifles, 300 rounds of AK47 magazines, one pump action gun, a police walkie-talkie, one sledge hammer, one iron cutter and eight gas cylinders, from the gangs hideout in Igando.


This is just as Dosumu revealed that he had been treating patients for over 15 years with a fake certificate and had veered into a life of crime at 60 years due to ignorance.

In his confessional statement to the police, Dosumu  who had been parading as a medical doctor admitted that though he attended Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ife, he dropped out of school at 400 level.

He confessed that his elder brother arranged his medical certificate with the help of some lecturers at the university and also arranged his housemanship at the Ahmadu Bello, University, Zaria.

He said with the fake certificate, his elder brother also assisted him to gain employment with the then Ikeja General Hospital now Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), were he allegedly worked for a period of 14 years before he left to start off his own hospital known as Kola hospital at Igando.

Confirming the arrests, the state Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko, said the gang were arrested from their various hideout by police operatives attached to the Lagos State Anti-Robbery Sqaud (SARS) led by the Officer-in-Charge, SP Abba Kyari.

He said the police swooped in the suspects based on an intelligence report which revealed the existence of some items suspected to be ammunition hidden in an apartment at Ipaja area of Lagos.

Based on the strength of the information, he said SP Kyari was detailed to investigate and they discovered that the items hidden in plastic  drums were actually assorted military and police rifles with loaded magazines.

He said, "Police investigations revealed that the suspects were allegedly responsible for the armed robbery attacks on Access Bank, Ayobo, Ipaja and another at Idimu which took place on November 16, 2013.

"The group had opened fire on the team of policemen from Ayobo Division who responded to a distress call, killing three of them on the spot, including an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Longinus  Amuzie and also carted away two AK47 rifles belonging to the deceased policemen.

"The robbers again on November 20, 2013, ran into a team of policemen led by SP Kyari along Akawo Street, Ilasamaja and during the shoot out, two of the robbers were fatally wounded. One AK47 rifle with S/No. 05267, 11 AK47 magazines and two Nokia phones were recovered."
