Police Arrest Cultists, kidnappers, Others


The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with cultism, kidnapping and 
armed robbery and also recovered three locally made pistols and a cache of ammunition.

While the duo of Sunday Onwe and Ijoko Samuel were arrested for cultism and other related Offences, Ugochukwu Nwafor was arrested for armed robbery and one Ojo was also arrested for attempted kidnapping. 


The state Police Spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the Shagamu Police Division had on Wednesday arrested some cultists at the Odo-Kekere area of Ikorodu.

She said, "Acting on a tip-off that a group of hoodlums suspected to be cultists assembled at Odo- Kekere area of Ikorodu, policemen attached to Shagamu Road Division stormed the area and arrested two members of the group namely Sunday Onwe and Ijoko Samuel both of no fixed address while other members escaped.

"Items recovered from the hoodlums are one locally made pistol, four  live cartridges, three axes and four assorted handsets. 

"Also, one Ugochukwu Nwafor, an armed robber was hit with a vehicle and arrested with one revolver pistol by mob at Havannah Hotel Gowon Estate. The suspect attempted to rob a victim at the aforesaid hotel. 
"While on patrol, policemen attached to Oworonshoki Division rescued and arrested one Ojo from angry mob. The suspect had allegedly wounded one Moses Idowu, aged 10years old of Agbareju Street, Oworonshoki while attempting to kidnap him. 

"Meanwhile, about 15 armed robbers entered and attempted to rob residents of No.47 Odunsi Street, Bariga, but they were eventually over powered by the residents, although the robbers later took to their heels and abandoned one locally made pistol and live cartridges."

Braide said all the cases are currently being investigated at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba.
