Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested two suspects over their alleged involvement in the operation of a baby factory in Imo State. The state Police Spokesman, Sylvester Igbo, said one of the suspects, Mr. Ifeanyichukwu Agwu specializes in conveying pregnant young girls from Amasiri to Amaraku, Amaigbo in Nwangele local government area of Imo State where the baby factory is located.

The Inspector-General of police Special Taskforce on Pipeline Vandalism, Lagos Zone has arrested 10 suspected NNPC vandals and recovered 800 (50 liters) jerricans at Elepete, Arepo in Ogun State.

Mr Friday Ibadin, Assistant Commissioner of police (ACP) in charge of the taskforce said this while parading the suspects and items recovered from them at Arepo on Monday, adding that they were arrested on Sunday night.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Command has sealed up two compounds at Ishawo, Ikorodu LAgos where NNPC pipeline vandals normally transload stolen products from vandalised pipeline.

The commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Command Mr Adesuyi Clement Dayo ordered that the compounds be sealed following a tip-off and inspection of the area by the commandant.

The Lagos State Police Command yesterday disclosed that it has arrested about 300 suspected armed robbers in the first half of the year as against 244 arrested around the same period last year. This is just as the command in the last six months also foiled 207 armed robbery attempts and recovered 235 arms and about 9000 rounds of ammunition against 160 arms and 948 ammunition recovered around the same period last year.

Hopes that the feud between the Presidency and Rivers State Government  are over were dashed  Sunday as the First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, shunned officials of the state who had gone to receive her on arrival at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa.

It was gathered that officials of the state government, led by the Deputy Governor, Mr. Tele Ikuru, who had gone to receive Mrs. Jonathan at the airport, were not allowed access to the first lady.

This story often gladdens me and, at the same time, angers me. There is a community called Birnin Ruwa in Zamfara State, which used to be afflicted with the cholera epidemic every year. A dozen persons were always guaranteed to die with each outbreak, which was an annual event. Those who know Northern Nigeria very well will understand why. Denied of potable water, rural communities depend on water from streams to cook, wash and bathe. Unfortunately, during rainy seasons, the streams are easily polluted. With human and animal wastes perching on the banks, it takes a few drops of rain to defile the water. Pit latrines also overflow after heavy rainfall. Cholera outbreaks are inevitable. Every year, hundreds of people die from the epidemic. You can almost be sure.
