Nyanya Bombings: NEMA Updates Casualty Figures, Hospitals

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other response agencies have  carried out an update of the dead  as well as the  injured victims of the early morning blasts at the Nyanya Motor Park taken to various hospitals in Abuja and the environs.

Further to the evacuation and to ensure adequate care for the injured, the Director General Sani Sidi, has visited some of the hospitals with directive that adequate and free media treatments should  be provided to all the victims.

Nyanya Blast: Tambuwal, Ihedioha Condemn Attack

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and his Deputy, Emeka Ihedioha have condemned the Monday morning bomb blast which killed dozens of commuters and other innocent Nigerians in Abuja. In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Malam Imam Imam, Tambuwal, who is away in Calabar, described the attack as cowardly and barbaric. 

President Jonathan Says Boko Haram Menace is Temporary

Hours after a bomb went off Nyanyan, Abuja and claimed several lives, President Goodluck Jonathan visited the scene and yet again vowed that the menace of Boko Haram is temporary. The president visited the scene of the bomb blast with the Senate President, David Mark and Chairman of PDP, Adamu Muazu Ministers, Chief of Defence Staff, service chiefs.

He said, "I am also commending security services ‎for their prompt action. Though we lost quiet a number of people, we condole we are countrymen and women. We will continue to work very hard. The issue of Boko Haram is temporary. Government is doing everything to make sure that we move our country forward in spite of all the distractions that want to take us backward."

Official Death Toll Says 71, while 124 Injured

Finally, security agencies and emergency rescue workers have been able to put a figure on the death toll. It has been confirmed that 71 persons have so far lost their lives while 124 others have been conveyed to about eight hospitals for treatment. The Force PRO Frank Mba, disclosed this to journalists on behalf of other security agencies at the scene of the blast.

Mba reconfirmed that 16 luxury buses were razed, while 24 other vehicle types were also destroyed in the blast. He said that information centres would be opened at all the hospitals where survivors were being attended to in order to provide information to their families. Meanwhile, he said, experts from the Bomb Disposal Squad have combed the area, with security personnel have being placed on red alert throughout the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) following the explosion that occurred at about 6.55 am

"The agencies are already paying very close attention to all vulnerable points including motor parks", he noted.

Shocking: Explosion Hits Nyanya Motor Park

The dreaded sect today struck again but this time at the popular and densely populated Nyanya Bus Terminus in Abuja. God help us. The bomb  blast incident was carried out  this morning by members of the Boko Haram Islamic Sect with plate number XQ229LSD.

The tragic incident, which was said to have occurred between 6.30-6.45am destroyed about 16 Coaster (El-Rufai) buses, with four of them filled with over 50 passengers burnt, several motor cycles (Okada), and other mini-buses and cars were either parked or loading passengers were also burnt beyond recognition. Sources said 27 dead bodies  have been taken to   Asokoro Hospital, 25 receiving treatment, 15 dead bodies in National Hospital and 46  others receiving treatment.
