Official Death Toll Says 71, while 124 Injured

Finally, security agencies and emergency rescue workers have been able to put a figure on the death toll. It has been confirmed that 71 persons have so far lost their lives while 124 others have been conveyed to about eight hospitals for treatment. The Force PRO Frank Mba, disclosed this to journalists on behalf of other security agencies at the scene of the blast.

Mba reconfirmed that 16 luxury buses were razed, while 24 other vehicle types were also destroyed in the blast. He said that information centres would be opened at all the hospitals where survivors were being attended to in order to provide information to their families. Meanwhile, he said, experts from the Bomb Disposal Squad have combed the area, with security personnel have being placed on red alert throughout the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) following the explosion that occurred at about 6.55 am
"The agencies are already paying very close attention to all vulnerable points including motor parks", he noted.
