No fewer than five suspects were arrested by the Area F and M Commands of the Lagos State Police Command in different robbery operations in the state.

The Area F had arrested three suspects identified as Mrs. Freedom Maddy and the husband Mr. James Maddy and one Alhaji Hassan Bawa for conspiracy and stealing of gold worth N20million.

It was gathered that Freedom was conscripted into the gang by the mastermind, one Dennis, who is currently at large.

Confirming the arrests, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, said although Dennis had taken Freedom to their victim's house to work as a house help, she was actually embedded to rob.

She said, "A couple, Mr. and Mrs Joseph Obong had contracted Dennis to get them a house help but unknown to them, Freedom was actually sent to rob them.

"After working for five days, she ransacked the Obong's residence and made away with gold jewelries worth about N20million. The case was transferred to the State Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) who arrested the suspect.

"Upon arrest, Freedom confessed to the said crime and fingered her husband, Maddy and Dennis as her partners in crime. When arrested, Maddy disclosed that he had sold the jewelries to a dealer.

"Maddy said they had sold the goods at the rate of N1.3million to one mallam Hassan who was picked up too by the police."

Braide said this group and many others at large specialise in gaining employment as a house help or driver with fake names, addresses, guarantors and phone numbers only to escape after robbing their employers blind.

She called on the general public to register with the police any domestic help they employ to avoid falling into the hands of these set of people.
