In recognition of the critical role that they play in human capital development and the socio-cultural and economic advancement of the country, the 18th edition of the THISDAY Annual Awards will be honouring Nigerian teachers.
Arriving at the decision Tuesday to recognise and honour teachers at the primary, secondary and university levels, the THISDAY Editorial Board chose to dedicate the 18th THISDAY Annual Awards to teachers because of the central role they play in imparting knowledge through education.

Teachers, who are often poorly paid and unappreciated, are also pivotal to moulding characters of children and the youths who will grow to become the leaders of tomorrow.
In order to set the ball rolling, advertisements on the awards will start running in THISDAY Newspaper on Friday inviting people to nominate teachers who have distinguished themselves in the noble profession of teaching.
Following the receipt of the nominees, a screening process will be put in place to select the eventual awardees, whose names shall be published for recognition on the night of the awards.
The date of the THISDAY Awards, a star-studded extravaganza, which attracts the crème de la crème of the society every year and always features global figures as special guests of honour to give the keynote address, will be announced in the next few weeks.
