Police Harvest Cache of Fake Drugs in Lagos

The Ejigbo Police Division under the command of the Divisional Police Officer, Oliver Innoma-Abbey, a Chief Superintendent of Police, has arrested 58-year old suspected fake drug producer, Ikenna Nne and seized a large cache of the fake drugs. 

Among the recovered exhibit were two packing machines, five big cartons of counterfeited Albendazole (Zentel) tablets and large quantity of counterfeited Albendazole packed in 10 big bags.

Also, a large quantity of printed packaging Albendazole tablets and Levonorgestrel (postinor 2) tablets and 37 cartons of leaflets for Zentel were recovered by the police.

Parading the suspect today at the office of the Police Public Relations in Ikeja, the state Police Command’s Spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the suspect had turned his residence at no 5 Arochukwu Street, Ilamoshe, Ejigbo, into a factory for the counterfeit drugs.

She said, "When the scene was raided, we saw big machines for producing the counterfeit drugs in the four bedroom apartment which was converted into factory.

"His arrest was sequel to a tip off by the owner of the house and the case would be transfer to NAFDAC for further investigation and possible prosecution."

However, the suspect while speaking to newsmen denied that the drugs were counterfeit, adding that, the drugs were being manufactured in India and China but were just being packaged in Lagos.

The suspect who also disclosed that he has no knowledge of the process of the drug manufacturing said he only knows how to package them for marketing, adding that he was not aware of those in the chain if distribution.
