By Chiemelie Ezeobi

The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Beecroft of the Western Naval Command (WNC), Apapa, yesterday handed over four illegal Benninois to the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) after they were arrested for illegal bunkering.

The suspects were arrested around SBN, along Atlas Cove, an area known for illegalities including bunkering of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) pipeline in that axis, with jerrycans loaded with petroleum products.

Confirming the arrest, the Command Information Officer, WNC, Lieutenant Commander Jerry Omodara, said the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, had intensified constant patrol in the area because of the illegalities perpetuated there.

He said, "The suspects were arrested by naval personnel  on patrol and it was discovered that they had no legal documents backing up their stay in Nigeria.

"The products were recovered and handed back to NNPC while the suspects were taken to the NIS for possible deportation."

In yet another development, two suspects; Ajayi Toyin and Adeboye Adeleye, were arrested by the Nigerian Navy for impersonation.

WhileToyin was arrested at Iyana Iba Ojo area, Adeleye was picked up at Coker, Aguda area where they were both harssing innocent people and commiting  various legalities under the guise of being military personnel.

Omodara said the duo were picked up based on intelligence report and were yesterday handed over to the Area B Command of the state Police Command for prosecution.

He said the suspects were arrested by the patrol team put in place by the FOC West, Rear Admiral Ibas as a result of  series of complaints received from those areas.

He said, "The patrol team is also to ensure that no naval personnel is seen violating the Lagos law on the ridding of motor bike on specific routes in Lagos."
