NPS: 69 Infants, 847 Juveniles In Nigerian Prisons

The Nigerian Prison Service (NPS) has disclosed that about 69 babies are currently locked up with their mothers in the 234 Prisons across the nation, while 847 Juveniles were also said to be enclosed in three Borstal Training Institutions located in Kaduna, Abeokuta and Ilorin.
The Controller General of Prisons, Mr. Zakari Ibrahim stated this Wednesday in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, NPS, Kayode Odeyemi debunking the allegation that there were 6,000 children in the Prisons and that N7 billon Prison Medical and Health personnel allowances were diverted.

Ibrahim noted that the infants in question were born inside with their mothers being pregnant before they were brought into Prison custody.
