The Commissioner of Police, Tunde Ogunsakin-led Special Fraud Unit of the Nigerian Police, has arrested two suspects, one Ayoade Precious Bidemi and Temitope Ajisigiri Kehinde for forgery and obtaining the sum of N7.3million under pretext.

According to police investigations, Abidemi who is the the Managing Director of Ampris Global Resources, had used his firm to defraud several persons under the pretext of acquiring land for them (the victims).

The 29-year-old graduate of Yaba College of Technology (YabaTech), said he registered his company in 2009 to sell and develop an estate, adding that he had an agreement with a family to purchase 200 acres of land, which he had already started paying for in tranches.

Although he confessed to obtaining the said sum from the complainants, he however maintained that he had no intention of defrauding them since he had already allocated some plots to some other buyers.

He also confessed that he had not processed the certificate of occupancy with Ogun State Land Registry, but stressed that he had sent an application to that effect, adding that he would refund all the complainants their money if set free.

His accomplice, 30-years-old Kehinde, a  graduate of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, was arrested in connection with the crime as she was the one sent to collect the money from the buyers.

Kehinde who started as the property consultant for the company was said to have risen to the post of a business development manager and as such marketed the land to the complainants and provided them with the company’s account number where they paid in their money for subscription.

Confirming the arrests,SFU Police Public Relations Spokesperson, Ngozi Isintume-Agu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the suspects were arrested based on a petition to the CP by the victims of the fraudulent activity.

She said, "The Special Fraud Unit in its renewed efforts to rid the society of fraudsters has arrested some land speculators who duped some military personnel and other innocent Nigerians of their hard earned money.

"In a petition to the CP, SFU dated 8th March 2013, the Complainants alleged that sometime in September 2010, the duo of Ayoade Precious Abidemi and Tope Ajisigiri Kehinde approached them that they have a large expanse of land for sale at Ofada, Ogun State.

"The military personnel having indicated their interest, paid the sum of N7.3 million to them with the expectation that the land will be allocated to them.  Their suspicion was aroused when they requested for title document but were presented with forged survey plan."

She said investigations are ongoing, adding that CP Ogunsakin urges members of the public who wish to own landed properties to ascertain its genuineness before investing their money.
