As part of the programme to mark its 57 anniversary, the Nigerian Navy, had on Tuesday donated six Computers, six UPS and a printer to a community Secondary School in Lagos. The Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command (FOC), Rear Adm. Ibok Ibas, said that the donation was part of the command's Quick Intervention Project to mark the service anniversary.
The FOC who was represented by Rear Adm. Jonathan Ango, the command's Chief Staff Officer, said Awori Ajeromi Junior Grammar School , Agboju in Oriade Local Council Development Area, was chosen because is within its host community.
Ibas stated that the Nigerian Navy was out to encourage and promote education especially in the areas of Information Technology which was lacking behind in secondary schools.
According to him, the command believe that such gesture would go along way in
promoting the academic performance of the students, adding that, it would also expose them to opportunities on Internet.
He noted that the Nigerian Navy had done wonderfully well in the area of its primary responsibility in the last 57 years of its existence, adding that, the service would continue to safe guard the prosperity of the country and the people.
Also speaking, the Vice Chairman of the area, Gbolahan Dauda, thanked the Nigerian Navy on half of the council for gesture done on the school.
Dauda however, while calling on other services and the police to come to their aid in improving facilities and providing equipment to schools also appealed to the command to extend the gesture to other schools within the area.
According to him, the computers could be use not only in the academic planning but would also give students opportunity to have access to internet without going out of the school premises.
Dauda also advised the school authority to make good use of the system and maintain them well in order to attract other donors to the school.
